Round or rectangular tables for a wedding? Start with what your venue supplies, then compare two measured layouts and two complete quotes. Round tables may suit separate guest groups; rectangular tables can create shared banquet rows. Neither shape is automatically cheaper, more comfortable or better for your room.

This guide helps New Jersey couples choose between the options without confusing a table’s rental price with the cost of a finished reception. Party Perfect America’s currently verified dining-table listing is a six-foot rectangular banquet table. Round-table availability is not confirmed; ask your venue or supplier before planning around it.

Round vs rectangular: compare the experience

Rental supplier Creative Events also emphasizes actual table dimensions, chairs and room features rather than treating shape alone as a capacity rule. Your venue should review the final layout, including its access and exit requirements.

Compare venue tables before renting replacements

Ask for an inventory of the tables included with your venue booking: shape, exact dimensions, quantity and condition. Then ask whether linens, chairs, setup and removal are included. A venue-owned round table might have no additional table-hire charge, while replacing it with a rectangular rental could add transport and handling. The reverse can also be true.

Do not replace every included table just to achieve a particular photograph. You could keep the venue’s guest tables and rent a different shape for a sweetheart table or display. Check that this mixed arrangement still leaves the routes and service space your venue needs.

Run the same guest-group test on both layouts

  1. List your actual groups. For example, record a family group of six and a group of eight friends separately. Do not start with a neat-looking drawing that forces people into unsuitable groups.
  2. Place the groups on each proposed layout. Ask the supplier how many place settings work with the exact table, chairs and meal service. Joining rectangular tables can remove usable end positions; do not count each table’s standalone capacity again.
  3. Add everything that is not dining. Include the DJ, dance floor, buffet, bar, photo booth and any venue-owned furniture that will stay in the room.
  4. Review the plan with the venue and caterer. Check chair pull-back space, guest circulation, service routes and access needs before finalizing quantities.

For the rectangular option, our six-foot table seating guide explains the difference between side-only seating and using the ends. It is a starting point for discussion, not a substitute for venue approval.

Compare the complete bill, not just cost per table

As checked on October 18, 2026, PPA lists the Six-foot Banquet Table at $10 USD, with approximate dimensions of 72 inches long, 30 inches wide and 29 inches high. This is a listed equipment price, not a delivered wedding quote; confirm rental period, availability and all additional charges.

For an illustrative equipment-only calculation, eight of these tables would be $80; ten would be $100. Those quantities are not recommendations for a particular guest count. The $20 difference does not tell you whether a round-table or rectangular-table reception is cheaper, because the other supplier’s quantities and inclusions may differ.

Request the following breakdown for each approved layout:

Keep refundable deposits separate from the event-cost comparison, but include them in the cash you need available. Confirm the final total in writing. Use our six-foot tablecloth guide to check the rectangular option; do not assume a venue’s round linens will work.

Questions couples often ask

Which shape fits more guests?

There is no reliable answer from shape alone. Compare scaled plans using the same usable room, meal service, furniture and venue-approved routes. A plan with more chairs is not useful if it compromises the reception’s other activities.

Can we mix round and rectangular tables?

Yes, as a design option, subject to your venue and supplier confirming the arrangement. Put both shapes on one plan and check separate linen sizes and quantities. A mixed plan is not automatically less expensive.

Does PPA provide round tables?

Round tables are not confirmed in the current catalog checked for this guide. We can discuss the listed rectangular option and your event requirements, but do not book other items assuming round tables are included.
